The Lithuanian National Road Carriers’ Association LINAVA was founded on 4 October 1991 by 84 Lithuanian road transport companies. At present the Association enjoys the membership of aproximatly 1000 road transport operators with a fleet of 38000 licensed goods vehicles and 3000 coaches. There are aproximatly 5500 road transport operators ir Lithuania.
The Lithuanian National Road Carriers’ Association LINAVA mission is to defend the interests of Lithuanian international road transport operators, to ensure the harmonious conditions in the transportation market and to improve the competitive ability of Lithuanian road transport operators.
The Association LINAVA is an active member of the International Road Transport Union (the IRU).
In accordance with the CustomsConvention on the International Transport of Goods under Cover of TIR Carnets of 1975 the Association LINAVA acts as a guarantor in the framework of the TIR Convention and is authorized to issue TIR carnets.
LINAVA has been closely cooperating with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuanian Republic, Customs Department and other state institutions in order to create favourable conditions for the development of Lithuanian haulage business.
As of the 1st January 2009, a new regulation came into force requiring TIR information to be sent electronically to the EU Customs office of departure/entry before leaving/entering the EU. The transmission of data is implemented in the framework of the Information System of the European Union Customs. The Association LINAVA assists its members in receiving the simplified access to the system.
In 2003 the Association established its representation office in the Russian Federation to uphold the interests of Lithuanian operators in the Russian market and to facilitate contacts and cooperation between Lithuanian and Russian transport companies.
The Passenger Transport Division of the Association LINAVA numbers today 63 companies with a fleet of 3000 buses, coaches and trolley buses that carry over 390 million of passengers every year. The Passenger Transport Division takes an active part in the work of the IRU Passenger Transport Council, and since 2003 the Association “LINAVA” is a member of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). At the end of 1998 the Association joined the IRU International Classification System for Touring Coaches. At present there are 50 coaches complying with the highest category of comfort in the country.
The Association LINAVA represents the interests of Lithuanian transport operators in the international and national market, provides information, consultations and services to the local and foreign clients.
